Infernal

Description

On 27 April 2009, Infernal’s “Electric Cabaret Deluxe Edition” was released, which is a deluxe version of the existing album ”Electric Cabaret” including live DVD, 4 music videos and some backstage material. The live DVD was recorded at Skanderborg Festival 08 in a mammoth 12-camera HD recording, which gives people a most outstanding experience in the first row in a sublime fusion of new and old in the usual Infernal madness.

The album, “Electric Cabaret” was originally released on 11 August 2008 and contains 14 well-produced tracks with the good pop song as the common denominator and not least, a bold retro aspect with homage to the good old disco days. “Electric Cabaret” occupied a wonderful second place on the Album Top 40 (the sales list) after just one week in the stores and the album went gold with more than 15,000 sold copies in less than two weeks and has just obtained platinum status.

The latest single from Infernal is “Redefinition” and the track is the ultimate tribute to disco music and is an accomplished, spectacular bomb of energy filled with tempo and a particularly powerful Lina Rafn vocal. “Redefinition” is one of the songs from the album “Electric Cabaret”, which several of the international labels have indicated as their favourite and potential summer hit.

In less than five weeks, “Electric Light” managed to place itself solidly on the Top 10 on the most important lists: The official airplay chart (peaked as # 4), which is a direct reflection of the track’s enormous popularity on radio stations; the official download hit list as well as the official club list, dancechart.dk. The single has gone gold with more than 7,500 copies sold.

In Denmark, “Whenever You Need Me” was the second single release from “Electric Cabaret”, and the track peaked at No. 2 on the official airplay chart. On Tracklisten, the official Danish download hit list, the track went in at No. 9 in the first week, and on the club chart, “Whenever You Need Me” reached the No. 3 spot on the official Dancechart.dk after just two weeks.

“Downtown Boys”, which was chosen as the first single to be released in Denmark, hit the top spot of the official airplay chart and stayed there for five weeks. “Downtown Boys” went Platinum in less than six weeks, peaking at No. 2 on Tracklisten (the official single download sales list). On Danish radio station P3’s Tjeklisten (listeners’ choice) the listeners voted “Downtown Boys” straight in to a fab 3rd place, after which it peaked at No. 1. In the clubs, Infernal reached No. 3 of the official club list, Dancechart.dk.

The past few years have been something of an emotional roller coaster ride for Paw Lagermann and Lina Rafn, something that can be clearly heard on “Electric Cabaret”. With immense passion and personality, the songs put into words the fantastic, and yet also highly emotional, stage in their lives that Infernal are at right now. But what also shines through is the fact that things have never been better for Paw and Lina. It takes courage to dare to defy the current trends, to go for it and do exactly what feels right to you. They have achieved tremendous success in the wake of BBC Radio 1 coining the phrase “gay disco”, which would turn out to be Infernal’s trademark – especially abroad. And disco is exactly what awaits the listener when Infernal’s fourth album in a row hits the turntables. The production is divine and sounds fantastic. Not least because on “Electric Cabaret”, Infernal have had the courage to use the musicians from their own excellent tour band, which travels to concerts all over the country with Paw and Lina. The harmony between the music and Lina Rafn’s enchanting vocals is better than ever, with a beautiful union of programming and more “real” instruments than ever before featuring on the album.

Infernal’s last album “From Paris to Berlin” went double platinum in Denmark, with over 60,000 albums sold. And the singles “From Paris to Berlin”, “Ten Miles”, “Self Control” and “I Won’t be Crying” from all went platinum too. In July 2007, the album celebrated its second year (104 weeks) in the charts, having peaked at No. 1. Several of the singles from the album are still played regularly on TV and radio stations in spite of the fact that the album is now four years old.

Infernal’s music has been released in 35 countries, making the pop duo Denmark’s greatest musical export success in 2007. Infernal has sold a total of 1.1 million units, divided between  800,000 singles and 300,000 albums throughout their career and can boast that the single “From Paris to Berlin” features on 2 million compilations all over the world. This is also reflected in KODA's English annual report, which shows that, this year and last, Infernal was in the top 10 most played Danish artists abroad, with an impressive first place in 2007 and second place in 2006.
